Tour overview

Autumn in Japan is about crimson leaves and perfect weather

As summer transitions to autumn, Japan begins to cool down, offering temperate weather that’s perfect for outdoor walks. From mid-November to early December, the trees turn vivid hues of red, orange, and yellow. It’s this combination of cool weather and striking sights that make fall one of the most popular seasons for traveling to Japan.

Most of Honshu and Kyushu  rest around a pleasant 16 degrees Celsius in October  and November

A bright, colorful and cold start to the year

Beginning with the New Year holidays, January is one of the colder months on the calendar. A spike in travel during the holiday season can make it difficult to book tickets and accomodations early in the month. It is, however, a good time to experience many aspects of Japanese culture with shrine visits and other events open to the public. It’s also a great time for winter sports and relaxing hot spring stays.

Japanese food is an art form. Try favourites like sushi and ramen, taste authentic regional cuisine, and enjoy local sake, shochu and beer.

Japanese cuisine is roughly divided into washoku (traditional Japanese dishes like sushi, somen and tempura) and yoshoku (Japanese versions of western dishes, like pasta, omelette and beef stew). From Hokkaido  in the north to Kyushu, or try one of Japan’s highly-acclaimed whiskies from Hokkaido, Osaka or Nagano. Head to Yamanashi for elegant wines or try the newest craft gins and micro-brews in Tokyo. Explore, discover, taste and enjoy.
